Grief Symposium
Grief Connections: Using Arts & Entertainment to Connect with Grievers
This interactive presentation will examine grief and loss as it is portrayed in the arts and entertainment. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of William Worden’s Four Tasks of Mourning and discuss how each task is portrayed in the arts and entertainment. Participants will identify therapy interventions aimed at helping grievers experience and work through the healing process.

Widening the Window of Tolerance in Grief Work
The workshop will help school counselors and mental health professionals understand the fundamentals of Daniel J. Siegel’s Window of Tolerance model. Using Siegal’s framework, participants will use the Window of Tolerance framework to discuss how grief impacts a griever’s ability to cope with adversity. This workshop is an experiential training experience, where participants will gain hands-on experience on therapeutic interventions to support grieving individuals cope with grief.

Children’s Grief Awareness Day: Beyond the Memory Box
Celebrate Children’s Grief Awareness Day with CBC-RGV. Participants will discuss and explore the benefits of cultivating an enduring connection between a griever and their loved ones. Using William Worden’s Four Task of Mourning, participants will explore creative interventions to support grieving families find an enduring connection with the deceased, while embarking on a new life. Memory boxes help grievers create a meaningful connection. This workshop will invite participants to explore creative ways to create and connect with their grief in a new and creative way.

2025 Filling Your Toolbox: Grief Therapy Strategies & Resources
This presentation will prepare participants to understand a child’s perception of grief as it relates their developmental age and identify age-appropriate communication. The training will introduce helping professionals to William Worden’s Four Tasks of Mourning. Participants will engage in experiential learning, as they practice hands-on techniques to help grieving youth. Resources for parents, professionals and caregivers will be provided..

Building School-Based Grief Support Groups
This presentation will support school counselors explore childhood grief and how it manifests in the school environment. Participants will discuss effective strategies for implementing a successful school-based peer-support group. This presentation will cover various ways that schools can support students and their staff. William Worden’s Tasks of Mourning will be discussed to explore curriculum that is age-appropriate for the school environment. Moreover, school counselors will explore ways to support students after a loss and identify tools to use in their school community.

Using Expressive Arts Interventions with Grieving Children
Expressive arts provide children with a medium to seek clarity, while fostering healing. The training will introduce helping professionals to J. William Worden’s Four Tasks of Mourning, communicating with children about death and dying, and instituting interventions using expressive arts with grieving children. Participants will learn how to integrate simple expressive arts interventions to support the grieving child.
